B&H Event Space Talk - NYC

Portrait Photography: Shaping the Face with Lenses and Light

It’s easy to see the difference between an unflattering snap-shot and a carefully crafted portrait. But do you know what makes them so different? It’s the same subject in both photos right? Well the difference lies in your choice of camera lens and the quality of the light that you use. In this talk Erik will show you how to best compose a variety of portraits using different lenses, with examples from photoshoots both in studio and out on location. Then during a Live Shooting Demo you’ll learn how to flatter the face with beautifully sculpted light using a variety of light modifiers, strobes and lighting techniques.

You’ll learn things that pertain to Studio & Environmental Portraiture including:

• Composition of the face and the frame
• Lens selection for different scenarios
• The characteristics of light and how it behaves
• How to shape light using studio strobes or speedlights
• As well as tips when working with your subject
